Hyphen
Asian American magazine seeks editors
San Francisco Bay Area
Application deadline: None specified
Posted: March 23, 2007
Magazines & Newsletters posting
Hyphen, an independent print and web magazine hailed by the San Francisco
Chronicle as "the oracle of Asian American culture" is looking for an
infusion of new talent to join our editorial team. Our team is made up of
dedicated journalists and art professionals who put together a quality
magazine -- one that earned a nomination for Best New Title from the Utne
Independent Press Awards.
We're looking for credible, smart, bookish, overachieving, dusty-fingered,
detailed-oriented and opinionated editors. Our editors are news junkies
who are interested in social justice issues, politics, art and pop
culture.
Please keep in mind that we're an all-volunteer, office-less, grassroots,
by-the-seat-of-our-pants organization. So there's no money involved, just
the experience of working alongside the finest Asian American minds that
community college ever produced.
If you're a smart, motivated, reliable self-starter who's passionate about
Asian American issues, then Hyphen wants you!
We're looking for folks landlocked to the SF Bay Area (though special
considerations are extended to those living elsewhere).
What Do I Get Out Of Editing For Hyphen?
An opportunity to learn about magazine publishing from a small, start-up
perspective
Meaningful and interesting coverage of stories and ideas that you may not
have the opportunity to cover at mainstream media outlets
A dynamic environment for building your resume with leadership roles in
editing or management
A great way to network with Bay Area Asian Americans in arts, culture and
politics
An opportunity to work (and socialize) with a talented and dedicated
staff, in an innovative and supportive organization
Occasional meals of Spam and kimchee
A warm, fuzzy feeling!
