Searching for Discussion Groups

Several possibilities are available for finding a listserv in a subject area that interests you. One possibility is to use a general-interest search engine. You can search for the subject of interest and "listserv" or "discussion" to see what results appear.

You might have better results, however, to use a site that provides information specifically related to this topic. Here are some possible search sites. You may want to try more than one, since none of them appear to include all listservs.

List search

Here you will find a simple search box in which you may type the subject(s) of interest. The "List name" and "List title" boxes are checked by default. I suggest that you leave them checked and leave the others unchecked.

listTool.com

Two boxes are available here. One lets you select from a number of broad categories. If you use it, you can select a specific list from the next window, supply your e-mail address and name, and use the form to subscribe. You can also search for lists using the page's other box.

Tile.net

This site is the most austere of the four. It offers one search box into which you enter the subject(s) of interest.
